Changing the Message is an interactive workshop that challenges social norms by recognizing and deconstructing pro-violence messaging in media and language. In this workshop facilitated by Veronica Stephens of Laura's House, a non-profit and shelter for victims of domestic violence, participants will be exposed to various images, videos, and language and discuss the implications of negative messaging and understand the impacts in personally participating in harmful social norms. The lessons learned will include but are not limited to: harmful masculinity, gender stereotypes, and acceptance or enforcement of rape culture. They will learn to deconstruct media’s influence in order to rebuild our culture to create a safe and healthy community for all.
